This sculpture is intended to represent the leaf of a Cottonwood tree.  I chose a leaf from this particular species because the Cottonwood is the state tree of Nebraska.  They are also heart shaped so I thought this was a perfect theme for this project.
Material or Construction
Each side of the leaf will be painted with different colors, showing the spring colored foliage on one side and the fall colored foliage on the other.  The stem and cicada will be cast from fiberglass as additions; and will be attached to the base with bolts.  The base will represent the landscape of Nebraska, with the Platte River winding through.  The whole sculpture will be painted with outdoor exterior paint and coated with a clear protective coat.
